Getting my priorities right...

I'm not a very religious person in the sense that I don’t offer prayers or read the Holy Quran often. Something I've felt guilty about for a very long time, have tried numerous number of times to rectify it and failed every single time. Being a procrastinator of the highest order does not help as I never manage to do anything on time and I always had my priorities in the wrong places which made me use my time up doing pointless things of little or no importance.

Now for the past 3-4 months, I’ve managed to somehow fix that by getting my priorities right. I still have a long way to go but I’ve started praying at least 2 times a day if not more which is a huge contrast to once a week i.e. Friday prayers only. Also I’ve managed to read the Holy Quran more often as well as I’ve loaded it onto my mobile which makes access easy and always at hand. Now I just need to take this further by improving my understanding of Islam and trying to incorporate it more into my daily lifestyle.

Sad to tell you this... But if you dont pray the 5 daily prayers you are NOT a muslim, this is in many ahadith and according to EVERY scholar under the sun.

You can drink, do drugs, and god knows what, and still technically be muslim. A bad one, but one none the less.

No praying = not muslim. Period. So I'd like it if you didnt call yourself a Muslim as it cheapens the commitment those of us have made to our prayers.

Not trying to be harsh, but being truthful. You ARENT a muslim. FIX the prayer issue THEN call yourself that.

That's a little harsh and from what I know I kinda disagree though I'm not in the position to argue due to my lack of Islamic knowledge...

and I am fixing it...been praying 4 times a day for over a week, just finding waking up for Fajr a problem...hmm...

Please do some research. No praying = not muslim. And not prayinig more than 2 (some scholars say 3) Jum3as in a row makes you a munafiq.

The 5 pillars of Islam are those because they are the MINIMUM that have to be met to be a muslim.

As for your having a hard time waking up, I COMMEND you on fixing it. Wallahi that made me very happy, to see someone who was born a muslim, left it because of whatever reason, even if you didnt know that, and started realizing it again. God speed.

You can pray Fajr late if need be, but try to pray it before the sun comes up. If you have any doubts you can email the fatwa centers in both Abu Dhabi and Dubai. They respond to your emails within 24 hours. I use that service often.

Oh, btw, once you get into waking up for fajr... your body will get used to it. Sub7annallah. It just gets used to it. I remember a time when I was in your situation spiritually and I didnt have anyone to point out the graveness of what I was doing. Bas with time, and doing what you are doing, getting used to it, I now automatically wake up between 5 and 5:30. Even if I was up till 3. It will happen, One of God's small gifts to us. Bodies that remember a routine.

Need to get into a routine.

From what I've heard, if a person does not pray for 3 days, he can not be considered a muslim. That was me for a very long time before. But for the past year I've tried to pray atleast once in 3 days. Kinda ridiculous but that's what I used to do. :S

Trying to fix things, I was going down the wrong way before, now I kinda know what's right and what's wrong....

Just a thought, maybe not praying at all = not a muslim but in my case I am, just not all of them.

Not praying all of them = a munafiq, religious hypocrite, that, as you might remember from many ahadeeth, is in some ways WORSE than a kafir.
