Power lines

I was told by a friend that living near power lines can cause cancer. If this is true, I wonder why power lines are still near housing developments in Quasis, Aweer, Gardens and International City (these are the places I remember). Doesn't having these power lines close by reduce the value of the development or are the people/government/developers ignorant as usual and don't really care.....

Wish if I have an answer to your question…I remember that a bunch of parents protested a while go when DU wanted to build a similar thing next to a their kids’ school….senior officials from the company claimed that there is no direct harm & its safe

I don’t want to stereotype but If the parents were Arabs I don’t think they would bother about such a thing…

They always make claims about things being safe even though it won't be....

Well it's a known fact that some Arab parents are in fact very irresponsible. Just look at the brats that roam the streets like the own the land they lay there feet on...and those buggies of theirs and large cars driving like maniacs....but I won't limit this to just Arabs, there are some upper class expats that do the same...

I think that in areas like Jebel Ali that those lines were there long before there was much of a population. I would say it's just been the result of extremely poor urban planning.
