Screaming silence

Warning: Angry Rant ahead

I adore the car I drive. Love the way it handles corners, the way it feels in control. But why the fuck does it have to fail on me so many times. The number of problems I've had with the car, you'd wonder how it's still running and it's just 20 months old. And it's not like it's wear and tear or abuse (which I don't do anyways). The weather today is wonderful with clear skies; you can see the stars in the city. So I open my sun roof to enjoy the view at a signal. I lower my seat cause I sit quite high and looking up from my default position strains my neck. Guess what, the seat button stopped working and now the seat is stuck in a position I can't drive in. Fucking brilliant and I have work for the next two days. This is the second time the seat buttons/motor has stopped working. If the car wasn't under warranty, I'd have lost a fortune trying to fix it not that I haven't already with the insurance, parking card and tires. Argh...

My best friend for the past 9 years is getting married this month and I can't go to his wedding in India because I don't have the money nor can I afford to absorb the opportunity cost. I don't have work as usual which is quite obvious from the several previous rants. Desperate times means desperate measures and so I'm working at Gitex shoppers doing promotions. I feel like a failure especially when conveniently the people strutting around as managers are people I knew in college...my juniors. And then you have the ones that flunked out of college roaming around as business men shrugging off my photography cause here I was promoting a camera that I would never buy hired by the company because I'm a photographer. And I unfortunately bumped into my best friend who wasn't too happy with the fact that I wasn't coming for his wedding...I felt horrible. No eye contact was made...

And then the fucking fact that among all the kids doing sales and promotions, I perfectly blend it. I'm 25 even if I may look like a teenager and that isn't a compliment when you're trying fucking hard for people to take you seriously. I'm tired of fighting the battle of being taken as a adult. I get enough of being the kid at home stuff as I am the youngest but when people ask me which school/college I'm going to; I feel like fucking killing someone. Best part is even the people who I work with and who know my age don't take me seriously cause of the way I look.

I know I should stop ranting but it's better to let it out here than on someone you care about....I miss my CC...more than ever....

Ego won't stop fighting...

I'm an arrogant person with a colossal ego. I don't accept defeat easily....oh wait! I never accept defeat; I just burble something and act as if it never happened. Anyway as quite apparent from my unvarying work related blog rants, I’m not making a lot of money *points at the lack of cash inflow in the past 60 days*. Irrespective, I have lifestyle and work related expenses I’ve got to sustain on a daily basis which doesn’t go down well with my father who keeps a tap on my depleting bank balance. This has led me to depend financially on friends who frequently lend me money that I have a tendency to pay off by helping them with work and/or hard cash (if needed). Unfortunately for me, the amount of money I owe everyone now due to certain incidents (lost and then found my wallet that someone conveniently emptied, online purchases etc) is weighing down on my ego. My arrogance is in denial but I need to face the fact; I don’t have any money. I’ve been literally living off friends for the past 45 days or so and it feels horrible even though no one shows even the slightest inclination or pretence that they're doing me a huge favour. I’ve lost this battle and it does make sense to accept defeat before there is nothing left to salvage. I need a job and give up on this freelancer facade I’m hiding behind but I’m refusing to stop fighting; I don’t know why....

Had planned to make a detailed post about what I've been up to lately but can't be bothered anymore. I've been sick for the past 5 or so days. I’ve been diagnosed with Asthma after getting three attacks in a day. Lack of sleep, messed up diet and a stressful life...this is what happens when you stop taking care of yourself. I’ve been stuffing myself up with various medicines (one of tablets supposedly being steroids) and been having Nebulizer sessions every day at home which seem to make little difference. Another trip to the doctor I suppose...oh what fun!!

And on the other hand…I managed to scratch SJ’s Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc screen even before she started using it, I dented the iPad, the Ford Mondeo had a hit and run incident, had to cancel an assisting job that was the only work I had for the first half of this month due to illness and I just spent twice the amount of money I’m going to earn this month on a tripod and memory card. Yep…this is going well.

Life as I know it...

8,851 is the number of days I've lived in the United Arab Emirates; the country I was born in, possibly one-third of my life according to some statisticians *points at World Bank*. Today, if I plan to carry on living in this country and chase my dream, I have to spend roughly AED19,000 per annum. This may not seem like a large amount to many, but that's the amount of money I've earned since my last birthday. The next 30days will shatter, relocate or give the dream one last life line. The stress is so awesome that I’ve aged a few years over the past few weeks.

Talking about aging, my 1 year and 20 days old camera has conveniently bailed on me and I’m looking forward to a hefty bill from the rip-off of a service centre which shall obliterate whatever photography budget I had left after I managed to lose (more like left it at an event and someone decided to borrow it, permanently) my costliest/favorite lens. On the other hand, my car (more like the car my sister bought that I maintain) is dying on me as well and it’s just 10 months old (should have bought a Camry.. *yawn*). The electronics are going round the bend while the brakes are a squeak and the incompetent service centre is well useless. I should ask for a replacement since I do have consumer rights. *coughmiragecough*

At least all is not gloomy (I think), the mobile that I managed to buy with the help of my brother and some vouchers is perfect for my needs though it does seem a little pricy now with the other costs sprouting like a bean stalk.

Talking about stalk-ers, there is a specific gentleman (read: pervert) who needs to be introduced to my hand though the angry face keeps telling me to control my emoticons. Listen I shall…

Oh and for the record, I’ve been alive for 8948days. I feel old… *grabs anti ageing cream*

“I want to be there for you for as long as I can”, an SMS I sent SJ today. The kind of person I am, there is no limit to how much I can care for a person, and this is how I work. I do extremely crazy things for people, without them even knowing. I have fought their battles, their inner doubts and taken care of them in any possible circumstances. There is a sense of contentment defending or caring for someone even if it meant fighting the entire world. Been there done that. Unfortunately every single time, I end up looking like the villain because I always tend to leave a path of destruction behind me that everyone seems to judge me by irrespective of my intentions, good or bad.

But as SJ told me, I need to learn from my mistakes, need to fix myself and just be me. So I shall continue to care because I can and I will. This is who I am and this is my life. As my parents always tell me “naiki kar dariya mein dal”

All my life I've tried to help people...but now that I look back, all I see is pain...

Thank you Lunch

Today was the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature "Thank you Lunch" for people who had volunteered at the festival this year. I was one of the photographers so got an invite a month back. Being socially tongue-tied most of the time, I had decided I didn’t want to go but a friend managed to persuade me at the last minute and I agreed to tag along with him. Bad decision!!!

Hadn’t slept well last night plus was kind of upset (again!!), so I should have known today would have been a bad day to get out. Anyway got picked up at 12pm and we got there by 12:45pm. As soon as I stepped into the room, I felt completely out of place. Everyone was dressed formally while I was in a T-shirt and track pants. Also everyone seemed to know each other while I didn’t really know anyone. Hung around for 5minutes, said hi to three people, then stepped out of the room and lingered there for about 15minutes after which I left, walked to the mall next door and sat there for another 15 minutes writing a poem. Once done with that, I caught the bus back home.

I suppose it was rude of me to leave like that but I’m in a state of mind where I’m not really sure what I’m doing and don’t really care what people think about me. I just follow my impulsive decisions, right or wrong; it doesn’t matter anymore because in the end life can’t get any worse.

My confidence is in a ditch right now and nothing I do makes a difference. I haven’t picked up my camera for the past 5 days. Once my escape, photography has just become a burden now...need to maybe let go of that as well...

Be careful what you wish for 'cause you just might get it all
You just might get it all and then some you don't want

Singlehood...

Just because I’m single now, some guys seem to think that it’s okay for me to check out (scan more like) every interesting looking girl that passes my path. I really don’t get what pleasure most guys get at checking out girls and seriously something I don’t intend to do ever. Annoying buggers...

Also being single does not mean I’m frustrated and therefore have the urge to watch porn. Pornography is disgusting and something I never plan to bother myself with. I’m just glad that I’m not in school/college anymore...I remember the number of times some people have tried to forward me porn disguised as something else...urgh!!

And one last thing, why do people in general assume that I'm interested in hitting on the girls I hang out with now that I'm single. Being single does not mean I’m unhappy and honestly I don’t always need a better half/companion to complete me...

Battlefield...

Just got back from Mall of the Emirates where I had gone to watch the movie ‘9’. Will post what I thought about it later. Anyway while driving back; I got a call from this number I didn’t recognize. It was Jason, Ash’s cousin brother who was wondering if I’d be interested to join him and some others for a multiplayer game of Battlefield.

A little bit of history about the whole Battlefield multiplayer thing. Basically I used to join Ash to play Battlefield 2 with his friends against a bunch of kids. Well they used to be kids, not anymore. It was a bit of a challenge with the winner getting bragging rights till the next outing. Even though I didn’t own the game, whenever I played with them, I was pretty good at it so Ash always asked me to come along.

Coming back to today (more like yesterday but you get the point), I told Jason I won’t be able to come cause I had plans. It would have been cool to play Battlefield again but I’m not that sad that I’m blogging about it. The reason I’m blogging is because Ash didn’t call me.

A little bit of history about Ash. I know him for a very long time, possibly for over 15 years. Apart from a few years, we were never really very close friends but he’s always been a part of my world in some way or another. In school he was in class and everyone knew he was a idiot (bit of a pervert). He was also in the same college that I went to where he used to love to talk about the new girl he had sex with. He used to tell everyone and anyone. He’s one of those jerks who’d sleep with any girl if he got the chance and brag about it. Even though I knew this and it disgusted me, I didn’t shut him out of my life because none of his shit ever affected me. What really surprised me that the girls in college used to be cool with the fact that he was an jerk irrespective of the fact that he disgusted them and this including my CC. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that he was a smooth talker, cool with everything and anything which made him a cool dude I suppose.

Anyway moving on, so he didn’t call me and maybe it’s because I messed up with CC. I don’t know what she told him but now I’m an asshole but wait a minute, what I’ve done is nothing in comparison to the things he has done but still he gets to treat me like this. Everyone gets to treat me like this irrespective of the fact that the wrong I’ve done does not even come close to the good I’ve done to everyone. So basically it all comes down to one simple thing, the thing that popped into my head last night…
It's ironic how I get punished for my mistakes because there is no one by my side...all alone I stand, all alone I try to survive...

Interview...or something like that

Posted: Monday, April 12, 2010 by Stained in Labels: , ,

I think it was an interview. I'm still not sure. Anyway here's what happened.

11th April 2010: Got a call from this Filipino lady who mumbled her name and the name of the company. She then asked if I was a photographer and if I'd be willing to work as a full time photographer for their company doing model portfolios. I said it depends on the package provided. She then went on to ask me how much salary would I expect and what do I do in general. She ended the conversation by saying she'd call me back soon after speaking to her manager. The thing is, I'm not really interested in doing model portfolios but I just said yes to see what the market is like.

12th April 2010: The Filipino lady calls me back and asks me if I'd be interested in coming to meet their manager at 4pm with my portfolio. I said I don't have a printed one so I emailed her a link to some of my pictures and she got back by confirming a meeting with her manager. Got there at 4:15pm. Was made to wait about 15mins or so. Now this place was basically just a shop made into a office with a funky orange and blue interior that comprised of a small reception near the entrance, a 4 door conference table next to it divided by just a wall and then two rooms. One room was the owners office and the second was I think a studio/practice area cause I could here loud music and someone screaming out dance moves in arabic. I wasn't expecting anything more cause they do have a rubbish website. Very amateurish and makes the whole business look like a scam especially with those images that seemed to have been taken from a Google image search. The guy who was screaming out the dance moves was the first one to interview me who was basically busy smoking and asking questions he didn't wait for me to finish answering. He was really interested in knowing if I knew how to retouch a picture and what company I worked for. He then decided to label my photography ambition as a mere hobby as I haven't studied photography. Idiot!!!

Back at the reception, I was asked to wait to meet someone else. Obviously I wasn't the only one there for the interview. A Filipino dude was there who was a freelancer as well working for safaris or something. A third photographer came in 5 mins later. By then the next person to interview me had come. He led me to this other shop that sold computer stuff and took me to the office inside. He asked me the same questions the previous guy had asked and saw my portfolio that was on a USB I had brought with myself. He too didn't care about the pictures but was more interested if I could retouch pictures. Basically I should know how to make natural skin look like plastic. He then asked me to take a picture of this Filipino lady who had joined us in the office. I obviously didn't have all my equipment so I told him that taking a good picture would be difficult cause I need the flash to be off camera. He didn't care. He told me to use the on camera flash for the picture which I did and he asked me to fix the picture. He then asked me how much would I charge for a day on a freelancer basis irrespective of how many pictures I take and told me he'd call me back for a test shoot. Annoying jerk...didn't know anything about photography and thinks photoshop can fix everything. I pity the people who try to get work through them.

I made my way back to the initial office where I was asked to wait some more to meet the owner who ended up asking me how I was three times in the gap of 10 secs. He asked me what company I worked for and looked dazed at my answer. He also asked me if I knew how to photoshop and then told me he'd call me back. I left in an hurry

What a fiasco. I'm not going for the test shoot. I don't want to work with a bunch of baboons who think photoshop is everything....

On a completely different note, seems like I'll be staying in UAE so I need to look for someone to sponsor me. Time to go around begging....

I also need to get around sending my resume to this place I'd love to work for. Just haven't gotten around writing an email and a cover letter. Need to stop procrastinating cause time is running out....

So mom and sister are mad at me...again!!! Basically yesterday, I managed to somehow not notice mom leave for the doctor as I was engrossed into editing the Type-R video so that made my sister angry and upset mom. And then I somehow forgot to call my sister in the evening informing her that I will be late to pick her up from work due to the portrait shoot, that obviously annoyed her and mom got angry with me. So I got in trouble for that plus both of them are on a 'men are assholes' mood lately so me being a man puts me in the line of fire especially since I'm the useless child/sibling which means I obviously deserve it.

On a different note....people who know me well know that I can be very honest....as in very very honest. Something my parents have drilled into me from the beginning plus it's in my genes i.e. runs in the family. But on the other hand life keeps throwing my honesty back at me i.e. I end up in a lot of mess due to it. The problem is that I'm not very bright plus I tend to do things without thinking i.e. I don't bother thinking about the repercussion of my actions. Not the best combination. So I'd decided about 10 days back to stop being honest. But then yesterday I sent an sms to someone where I made a very honest comment. I don't know what that person thought about it and I don't know if it's going to come back to haunt me. All I know is that by being honest, it gives me this confidence to look into the persons eyes without looking away with uncertainty or fear cause in the end I know I have nothing to hide...and for that I can't stop being honest to family, friends or clients. That's how I live....

Anyway wrote this poem last night. Still struggling to express myself properly so this isn't a very good but I like it..

I tried...
00.45am
12th April 2010

Tears in my eyes
Blur my vision
Can't see where I'm going
When do I turn away...

Listening to the whispers
Holding on to every breath
Maybe I'm not feeling
This moment I believe...

How can I go on like this?
Singing with the silence
Missing you is everything
Standing here alone...crumbling

Nothing lasts forever
Memories meant to fade away
In a concoction of fear
That fake smile again...

Musing my fate
If it even exists
Maybe I'm already dead
It does feel like it...

I tried to be different
But I've become one of them
And there is no where to hide
From myself...

-Stained

Oh btw, moms gone to the doctor again today and I was too slow i.e. till I got off the computer and did the work she had asked me to do, she had already left which means sisters going to have a go at me in the evening. Brilliant.... :|

One last thing.....I know very few people read what I write but I'd like some feedback on my writing skills. Trying to improve it as I've realized due to my photography, I've stopped expressing myself in words...Thanks

An average day with a bad end from the looks of it.

Was editing the Type-R video in the morning that took ages to render and it looks like crap. Need to re-edit it and that's going to take ages as my netbook is slooooow. At around 2pm, went all the way to KV to deliver pictures to a client for the third time. Drove to festival city where I met with SJ at 3:30pm as I wanted to discuss what I wanted to do for the portrait shoot.

So the client for the portrait shoot was supposed to come at 4pm...they ended up coming at 5:10pm which left us with very little sunlight to work with. On the plus side, at least had SJ for company while I waited for them to come. Shoot went on till 8:15pm, had to use off camera flash which almost ended up being a disaster cause my flashes refused to go off most of the time. I am glad I got SJ to come along with me cause she helped me a lot. Will someday return the favour...

Anyway got back at 8:45pm, had dinner and started checking my email, facebook, twitter etc. Had a message on facebook from the guy who's my current sponsor. Basically he has to cancel my visa in the next two weeks that leaves me with a maximum of 1 month and currently I don't have an alternative option apart from the freelancer visa which costs a whopping 20K. A few months back, the thought of going back to India would have freaked me out but lately it doesn't seem to be such a bad idea. New environment, possibility of making new memories and in general a wide variety of photo opportunities makes it look like a good idea. Hmm...should discuss this with my parents. Anyway I'm all tensed up regarding the situation, lets see how things work out....

I've always wanted a car. Now I've got one and I was very happy about it though ignoring the part where people keep scratching it with keys or I keep hitting the pavement and scratching the wheels. I wanted to become a photographer but had no work. Lately been so busy that I haven't been able to spend enough time at home again ignoring the part that I still don't get paid enough but it still made me happy. I've even managed to socialize lately which is a huge achievement for me. All of this feels great or atleast I thought it would. Currently the people I care about are not talking to me. I've become the person I've never wanted to be. I was heading that way for a very long time and had seen the warning signs but being the jerk I am, I ignored it all. Today no one knows how I feel, cause no one cares. I have nothing....even though I thought I had everything....hopefully I'll manage to survive this phase of my life without killing myself(ignoring the part that I'm a complete pipsqueak and won't have the guts)....and I'm not going to say sorry to anyone cause I know I deserve this....

Situation 2

Person B: Lets go to that club and have fun...
Person C: Cool...
Me: Urgh....I'll cya all later...

This is how every outing is planned in Dubai IMO. So to be social in Dubai, you need to love sheesha or bars. I think I'll prefer being socially inactive than to waste my life on such disgusting things...so that...

...the way I talk. No more super fast talker. No more stammering....will always try to think and talk with confidence.

...the way I dress. I need to stop dressing up like a 15 year old...I'm 23 and should act like one. Time to buy some formal clothes, shoes etc.

...the way I look. Maybe time to get those glasses I need...
