Solar Eclipse

Had completely forgotten about the Solar Eclipse today so with a last minute reminder from SJ, I managed to capture this. Luckily it was cloudy which made my shot more interesting and easier to take. Shot this through two tinted windows of my house to reduce light along with a circular polarizer to reduce light further by a stop and to reduce reflections/doubles (slightly visible) created by the windows.

Reflection...

Perhaps the best sunset picture I took in 2010. The reflection adds a whole new dimension to this scene, something I've shot a million times before. A custom white balance to get the purple tone with a bucket full of contrast to get the silhouettes.

Beautiful weather...5th May 2010

Last night me and SJ had decided to wake up early and try to shoot the sunrise, the Sheikh zayed road skyline and some other random shots from Ras Al Khor. So woke up today at 4:30am, got out of the house by 5:10am and headed out to Ras Al khor hoping to find a spot to shoot from. We found none which sucked though driving with the windows down in the rain was fun...

In the process we ended up on Al Khail road and I managed to snap this 7 shot panorama. As we tried to make our way back to Ras Al khor, we ended up on the road that went the Nad Al Sheeba instead and I decided to show SJ the area. Parked and we randomly walked around. We ended up spotting a rainbow like phenomena in the sky.We were literally in the middle of nowhere in the sense that there wasn’t anyone to bother us, it was just us enjoying the silence and being shutter happy.

I kind of liked the way this tree looked and how it went with the whole scene. This is a 3 shot HDR.After that we headed towards a section I hadn't explored before to look for camels as SJ hadn't seen one for ages. Luckily we ended up finding a camel farm with a female camel and its calf outside the fence taking a walk. We bothered them for a while before they decided to walk back to the farm. The mother seemed a little annoyed by us. Got some really cute shots of the calf. Here's a shot of both of them. Then we headed off to Karama to have some cheese manakeesh from Al Reef. And in the end we made our way to Nad al Hamar to pick SJ's car from the garage and then home sweet home.

A nice morning out...managed to take lots of nice pictures and had lots of fun.

Clouds Lightning but no Rain...

So while I left home to photograph the sunset, I spotted this cloud towards the east. Looked interested so I decided to head towards Jadaf where I could get a better look at it and possibly better shots. I reached, parked my car and looked at the cloud carefully. What I say next were over a dozen lightnings. I got excited and I called a friend, asked him if he wanted to go storm chasing. He said yes...So I snapped this quick shot (I had only brought my wide angle with me) and drove off to my sisters office to take her home.

I told my sister about the cloud and about my plans. So she called home and asked my parents if they wanted to go storm chasing. Basically when we were kids, as a family, we used to do this a lot. It used to be our own little adventure trips. If we heard it was raining somewhere in the UAE, we'd try to get there in the next few hours and look for dark clouds to drive to. Good days!!! Don't do that much anymore.

Anyway back to the story....I told my friend that I'm going with my family. We left home at 6:20pm, headed towards Hatta. We couldn't see any clouds or lightning anywhere. After driving for around 60-70 kms, we decided to head in the general direction of Al Ain on a road we'd never taken before though we kinda knew where it was going. Still no clouds or lightning. We hit the Dubai-Al Ain road and decided to head back home. Got home at 8:50pm, no clouds, no rain....just munching on some good shawarma, disappointed at the lack of any excitement...though it felt good getting back into the storm chaser mode after a really long time....
